#2. Real Madrid (@Realmadrid) - 10.3 Million followers
The huge jump from followers from the last 8, tells you just how popular this club is. Their followers come from so many different countries, ranging from Indonesia to Poland. The diversity is amazing! Although, you’d need to pick up some Spanish to keep up with their twitter feed.
#3. Galatasaray (@GalatasaraySK) - 3.6 Million followers
Another Turkish team in the list, and it’s befitting that it is the top two teams in Turkey with one of the biggest rivalries in the world. Galatasaray are on the European side of Istanbul, and their fans are known to give a chilly reception to opposition fans. “Welcome to hell” is probably one of their most famous phrases.
#4. Arsenal (@Arsenal) - 3.54 Million followers
The most famous of these followers is probably Piers Morgan, he’s known for always voicing his opinion. Not many other Arsenal followers like to agree with him, because he’s always on either end of the spectrum. These fans are known for their twitter trends and always winding up their rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
#5. Chelsea (@chelseafc) - 3.44 Million followers
These fans are known for expressing their opinions when it comes to managers, if they don’t like you, you’ll know about it. However a lot of their uproars can be seen on twitter, their disbelief in certain players or their defense against anyone who dares berate their club. They’re also known for their flags.
#6. Fenerbahce (@fenerbahce) - 2.82 Million followers
Fenerbahce make it in at sixth on this list and that’s rather impressive, unsurprisingly the majority of the followers are from Turkey. Based in Istanbul, at the beginning of this club’s history they were forced to play in secret as their leader had banned them from establishing a club, now they are one of the biggest teams in Turkey and known worldwide.
#7. Liverpool (@LFC) - 2.39 Million followers
One of the most successful clubs in England, and adored worldwide, their twitter following is rather large as well. There are many other sub accounts such as LFCUSA, but the main club account is the most followed. They have a fierce rivalry with Manchester United, and even though in recent years Liverpool have not been as great as they have been in previous seasons, there’s always been huge anticipation for their fixtures against United.
#8. Manchester United (@ManUtd) - 1.99 Million followers
Coming in at number 8 and beating their neighbors, United have over 45,000 more followers than Manchester City, impressive considering the fact that they have been on twitter only a matter of months. A very proud bunch of fans that you will often hear boasting about having the best atmosphere (at their stadium). They also don’t like to let others forget about the number of trophies that they won, and rightly so, every team has their bragging rights.
#9. AC Milan (@acmilan) - 1.79 Million followers
Italian team AC Milan won this fight against their neighbors Inter Milan, who do not seem to have a very large fan base on twitter. They are recognized internationally for being one of the best teams around, winning major trophies throughout their history. Recently not as prominent but these fans have a lot to be proud of.
#10. Manchester City (@MCFC) - 1.54 Million followers
Manchester City are known as the blue side of Manchester, having a fierce rivalry with their neighbors Manchester United. With a large sum of money injected into the club a few years ago, the club’s popularity has increased however they’re not quite up there with the rest of the other teams in terms of twitter followers yet.
